MOHAA Demo/YouTube Channel

Thu Jul 20, 2017 2:50 pm

  • Hey all, I've started a youtube channel where I will be uploading mohaa footage and compilations. Right now the res and editing isn't ideal but next videos will be in 1080p. Anyways, I uploaded a new one the other day if anyone wants to give it a peek and perhaps a like/subscribe. Oh, music is quite explicit, so don't let your kids or Mummy listen :P

  • Cool, I will subscribe. So will you upload your videos exclusively or you will compile frag movies from other people as well?

I have A TON of dm3 files going back to 2006 or so. For years now I have had the aspiration of doing a mohaa frag movie capturing the best plays through the years. Sadly, mohaa record was not compatible with DMW back in the day, so I couldn't record much as I wanted. Then, when DMW went down, I really didn't feel like recording anymore, which is sad because those probably were my best mohaa years. I personally don't like pub frag movies, because you can tell people are just playing very relaxed with zero team play coordination. Recordings in pugs is kind of meh, and scrims between clans are good. But recording in lanparties really has another vibe, as first of play after the group stage they are direct elimination, so you really have to be at your best or you go home, and the same goes to your rivals.

I do have a short frag movie from a pretty cool lanparty I attended in 2006. We probably were around 30 mohaa clans playing from 6pm Friday to 2pm Saturday or something like that. Long ago I shared this video in the forum, but I'll leave it here to share it with you and ther people new to this place.

To give some context: These are plays from the first 4 matches --after that, I stopped recording, since it was getting distracting. In a lot of plays I was the last standing player on my team, the compass will show in which ones. We played 5vs5 all weapons, stock damage, stock run speed 5 bullets sniper,, 2 nades, 4 minutes rounds (I think) with timelimit 15. This was recorded in July 2006, when I had been playing for 2 years and a half or so. The original song was removed due to copyright infringement, so I just selected a random song from youtube. The edition sucks, but at least before it was coordinated with the song (DOPE - Die motherfucker, die).

I don't mean to deviate attention from your thread; just taking the opportunity to share a common interest. I won't embed the video in the forum, so here is the link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mapxBsgnwDw

  • I'd be happy to make demos for others! I find film editing to be addictive so I'd be more than happy to cut up some of your footage and put it with music you'd like. Ofc because your footage is older it probably won't be able to be made HD or anything. I could record a couple of our pugs if you want as well, just for general promotion of the server. Do you have a nice rig now? If you have a geforce you can use geforce experience to capture raw game footage in 1080p without canoodling around with MOHRECORDER + Fraps or any of the old pain in the butt ways of making a demo.

  • I have a decent rig (gtx980m x2 SLI in the laptop I use to play mohaa, although I use three screens and that really brings performance down, so I would have to try). My preferred approach to recording is using mohaa record and then cl_avidemo to be able to convert to video with loseless quality and performance, and also for controlling the framerate for slow-mo sequences. Also, I don't remember exactly, but regarding old videos, perhaps dm3 files are reproduced with whatever resolution you have set? I don't remember, I might check soon. But I will also try streaming with nvidia gaming experience.

I like the idea of recording pugs, but also perhaps it could be interesting to do actual live streaming in youtube? Just an idea, perhaps in some cases it could be fun.

  • I am not familiar with the method you use, at least with cl_avidemo. The way I was told to make demos back in the day involved first recording the demo with mohrecord then playing it back and recording the playback with capture software. If this is the case whatever your viewmode and ui is when you capture the playback will be how the video looks. So, in theory, if you recorded a dm3 in say 800x600 you could change the resolution, enhance video settings and remove any UI you don't want clogging up the screen before you playback/capture and THAT would be what the final recording would look like. I say in theory because I've never attempted to change the resolution of a demo between recording it as a .dm3 and capturing it as an mp4 or avi. Honestly there's no way I'd be making demos if it weren't for GeForce Experience, it makes collecting raw game footage so much easier.

  • I did the same as you did, but instead of using the video capturing software (like FRAPS) I used the built-in command "cl_avidemo XX" where XX is the number of frames per second you want to export. The images are exported in TGA or png, I can't remember. I will give it a shot tonight with geforce experience. I play in 1080p but use very low graphic settings, as I think having 3 screens fucks up performance. But maybe tonight I will boost the quality and see how it looks.
